Each year the prestigious Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts are awarded to established creators and ground-breaking visionaries. Funded and administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, the $25,000 cash prize includes categories for artistic achievement in visual and media arts, fine craft and outstanding contribution.
Nominated by my dear friend, and GG Arts winner (2008) Tanya Mars, I have the honour of receiving this award along with my fellow laureates: curator and director Glenn Alteen, visual artist Bruce Eves, media artist Wyn Geleynse, visual artist Spring Hurlbut, photographer Sandra Semchuk, visual and performance artist Adrian Stimson and ceramic artist Jack Sures.
Commissioned by the Canada Council, the GGARTS create a video profile for each award winner and their work. My profile was by Toronto director, Alexis Wood and can be viewed here.
