From May 6-9, 2015, the Winnipeg Cinematheque will host a national forum that uses the Winnipeg Film Group’s 40th anniversary as a starting point to explore how the landscape of Canadian cinema has developed over the past decades and how it is currently evolving.

I will be participating in two panel discussions and a screening at this national forum, Reflecting Light.

May 6th 5:00 – 6:45pm Panel: Prairie Post Modernists & New Wave Pioneers: 1980s Cinema will explore the rise of an unprecedented number of acclaimed Canadian filmmakers during the 1980s and early ‘90s whose stature remains uncontested today. This panel will consider the unique conditions that existed at the time to foster the talents of the independent Anglo-Canadian directors, as well as their collective influence on the generations of filmmakers that came after them.

May 8th 12:00 – 1:45pm Panel: In Dialogue: Canadian Women Directors will look at the status of women’s filmmaking in different regions across the country and examine how their works have been represented in the broader cultural conversation.

May 8th 9:00 – 10:45 pm Screening: SHORTS: Pathways will include shorts by Canadian women directors that reflect on journeys taken through physical pathways and mindscapes, moments of motion and stasis and the intersection of perception versus reality. The Grand Design will be screened in this program.
