Independent curators, Suzanne Carte and Su-Ying Lee have conceived an interesting project that comments on the retail environment and how it connects to the local community. “Under New Management: Video Store” exhibition takes the form of a video rental store that carries artists’ videos. Rather than employing conventional retail methods, “customers” to this unique gallery environment pay what they wish. This can be cash, a non-monetary exchange, critique, or no remuneration. The collection or store boasts 200 titles including a selection of my DVDs. (link)
The exhibition is currently on at Access Gallery in Vancouver from July 30 – September 7. Previously the exhibition was presented at the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture and will be travelling to New Brunswick.
